The Wren – Journey to Exceptional

Our Curriculum Intent

Our exceptional education begins with an ambitious curriculum.

The Wren’s curriculum is not solely to prepare students to achieve exceptional academic outcomes but focuses on developing expertise, fostering meaningful experiences and preparing students to thrive in a dynamic society.

Our curriculum structure allows students to grow their expertise in a diverse range of disciplines.

From the outset, the breadth of our Key Stage 3 curriculum allows Wren students to discover their unique talents, passions, and interests. This breadth allows students to identify their strengths and begin to develop the skills that will shape and focus their future study and aspirations as they progress through their seven-year journey with us.

Our curriculum allows each child, regardless of background, to build the knowledge and skills needed for future academic success.

Our curriculum is designed around ‘Big Questions’ encouraging students to make links to previous and future learning.  It is carefully crafted to provide the support and encouragement students need to grow, while inspiring them to think hard, explore new ideas, and strive for excellence. We recognise that literacy serves as the foundation for all learning and personal development. Reading is a priority in our curriculum fostering critical thinking, broadening perspectives and encouraging students to create their own, well-informed responses to our ‘Big questions’.

Our curriculum teaches our values of kindness, ambition and respect.

These three values allow our students to be active members of their community as informed, respectful and responsible citizens who strive forward into their remarkable futures.

It serves as a guide for both students and families to understand the academic focus across different year groups, helping you stay informed about the topics and themes covered throughout the year.

Student Support Provision (SSP):

At The Wren, we recognise the value in supporting the well-being of our students to not only improve their engagement and academic achievement, but also to foster collaborative relationships with peers and staff. We are committed to ensuring that the systems we have in place support the needs of all students, whether or not they have an identified additional need. Attention to the individual, with much consideration given to student voice, has proven to promote a strong sense of belonging: creating a culture of care, and respect across the school community. These efforts will result in a setting where students feel safe to explore, know their opinions have value, and apply a ‘Better Never Stops’ attitude – not only to their academic studies, but to all their experiences at The Wren and beyond.
